At the current time, players can have twenty-five (25) characters total.
However, characters 21-25 must be approved by the moderators before you hold them. We don't need to know the character, just ask if it's okay for you to hold 21, 22, etc and you will need to wait a week between each character to let it settle. If you're having trouble with your current list, we may ask you to hold off on apping more
CHARACTER LIMITATIONS. We trust our players' judgement and no longer have any limitation on number of character's allowed per fandom--Except for the MCU. MCU characters are limited to five with no more than two "main" characters and prominent MCU characters not overlapping with other played characters by the same player
VILLAINS. At this time, we are not allowing major villains from any fandom. We will allow reformed villains such as 616 Loki, or shades of grey characters such as Draco Malfoy, but any character indulging in all out villain shenanigans WILL be taken out and quickly.
MINOR CHARACTERS. At this time, we are not allowing characters existing in name only (i.e. next-Gen Harry Potter characters, or characters only existing in single issues of comics). If you are unsure, feel free to ask!
FAMILIARITY. We ask that all players have read/seen a significant amount of the primary source material they are applying for. Obviously you cannot read every comic 70 year old characters have been in, but most book/movie/tv fandoms you can access complete sets.
CRIMINALS. While we do not OOCly police characters' criminality, disruptive IC crime will handled as per our policy on villains, and even minor crime if handled poorly, may lead to IC police action at the discretion of law enforcement playrs. However, as long as you're not making big, loud waves or bragging about it on your posts, the mods are largely willing to overlook smuggling, gambling, firearms, wahtever. SHIELD may not be though, which could make for fun plots.
CANON BUMPING. We do not need to approve canon bumping (for a definition and examples see the FAQ), but please use this in moderation and make a note on the dropbox page to let fandom-mates know.
NEW FANDOMS. In order to give players enough time to access new sources, and make sure there is enough known about a character to write an application, characters from books and films or single release series may be held two weeks after the material has been released. Characters from comics or weekly TV shows can be held after three issues or episodes.
PLOTS. This game has major and minor ongoing plot options in the form of monthly calendars. Events, news, and game-wide plot ideas are not only welcomed, but dearly loved. No idea will ever be considered stupid. We, the mods, will be happy to talk it over with you and figure out a way to implement it. Please note that for game-wide plots, the timescale of integration can take 2 two to months depending on how full our and DW's calendar is
POSTING. All journal entries (network posts), logs, text messages, telephone calls, etc should go into the thedoorway community.
TAGGING. Players are then expected to tag any post they are involved in for easier finding later. Mods are not responsible for tagging your posts.
INTERACTION. Players are expected to reply to comments on their entries in a timely manner. It happens on occasion, you post and get called away, but if it becomes a routine issue, we'll have a chat with the player. We've all been in games with people who will post an entry, and then don't reply to comments and it's not fun. However, unless you touch base with the other player, it's also not fair to expect people to routinely reply to comments on posts over 3 days old.
ACTIVITY. Activity is what keeps a game moving along. You must have three pieces of activity every month (or less for new characters). Activity is considered:
Comment wars of longer than 10 comments (5 comments per character, totaling 10 comments).
Logging, threading, or narratives.
Telephone and text message conversations that go on for 10 comments.
A hiatus of one week or more can count for one piece of actvity
One of those pieces of activity MUST be a network post, but you can do any variation of journal entry, log, and comment war for activity otherwise.
Characters added after the 15th of the month require two pieces of activity, Those added after the 24th can have one.
NEW CHARACTERS. Please post in character within a week of acceptance, unless you've discussed it with us ahead of time. We will not be making IC announcements every day telling you when people arrive/depart. But for interest's sake, you can track them here or by tracking the drop page
TRIGGERS.. This is a very sensitive subject, so we're approaching this very seriously and we hope you all do too. We're not interested in outright telling you what you can and cannot do with your characters without discussing it first, but we do want to handle certain subjects very carefully and with respect to our players who have experienced these situations in their real lives. The list below is what we consider to be a "trigger," and if you have anything to add, let us know. If you expect any of these issues to pop up in a log, network post or comments, please post a warning and put it behind a cut so that those who want to avoid it can.
If you plan on having your characters go through any of these situations in game and it is not in your accepted, original application, you MUST contact the moderators beforehand or as soon as you are aware it might be an issue.
-Rape and sexual assault, hate crimes, drug & alcohol abuse, self-inflicted injuries/self-harm, suicide, eating disorders, PTSD, domestic violence, incest, child abuse, miscarriage & abortion (and other pregnancy or neonatal health issues).
We also hope that you'll all be respectful and cautious when considering serious illnesses such as cancer and mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety. Again, we're not interested in telling you no right off the bat, but we do want to be mindful and realistic.
TAGGING TRIGGERS. If your post references potentially triggering topics, please tag them. This includes but is not limited to items listed above and harassment in many forms. This does not include swear words, kissing, or homosexuality.
ADULT CONTENT. Content-wise we have two pleas: fade sex scenes to black, and don't get insane on the violence in logs. We're set in the MCU which means everything's gonna be PG-13 tops when it comes to violence. Language is a whole other story, and we're not going to police that unless it becomes harassment.
Don't act like an idiot toward others.
Keep OOC feelings separate from IC.
BULLYING. Do not take your OOC frustrations out on characters (or characters of players) you don't like. We don't care if it's IC or OOCly. We're not going to tolerate it and will give one warning. If you can't say something nice, don't say it. That's not to say you can't have character conflict, but we suggest that if there is hostility, you should contact the other player(s) involved before or shortly after you jump into the fray. Better to err on the side of caution. RP conflict is great; player attacks are not.
Always give your fellow players the benefit of the doubt--context gets lost in the mix sometimes with online text. And what you interpret as an insult may have been meant as a joke, compliment, or benignly on the other player's end. Before assuming they dislike you / are upset with you / are plotting against you in a weird way, touch base and ask for clarification.
If it is not clear to you what a character just said, it is better to touch base OOCly for clarification before ICly pointing that out. Sometimes vagueness / grammatical / diction is an intentional IC choice, Sometimes it's fatigue/intoxication/autocorrect/a mistake OOCly and pointing that out ICly is a dick move
ANONYMOUS COMMENTING. Leaving anonymous comments is bullying. If we find out that someone in this game is leaving other players rude anonymous comments or goading others into doing so, they will be removed.
GODMODING. Don't Godmode (controlling any character which isn't your own or within your right to control)
On a similar note, metagaming (or having your character be privy to more information than they would have ICly) is also fail. If in doubt, err on the side of having your character know less rather than more.
COMMUNICATION. Communication is extremely important! As a player you are expected to communicate with other players in your character's interaction group and with players also involved in plots that you have signed up for. Also for any plot that might effect their character's status ICly or impact future plots they may already have lined up.
COMMUNICATION II. The prefered means of communication are email, gchat, and AIM. If you don't have someone's contact you can leave comments on their app, but routinely communicating through dropboxes can read kind of antisocial. Ask players before PMing them as this is a very ill-used function on IJ. For the mod account, we have an email address, a dropbox, and the FAQ. Please don't PM us.
MOD EMAILS If you receive a moderator email concerning a problem, please have the courtesy to respond to it.
If the email is regarding an accidental trigger warning related event, the appropriate response is to acknowledge it, apologize to the people hurt inadvertantly, and be more mindful in the future. Triggering happens, and no one thinks it was intentional, nor is the email meant to imply as much. However, it is a serious matter and fosters a stronger sense of community if everyone is involved in this dialogue.
If it is regarding a matter such as plagiarism, bullying, or something similar, failure to respond to a moderator email within 72 hours will constitute grounds for removal from the game.
PLAGIARISM. We shouldn't have to include this, but all applications, narratives, and samples should be in your own words. If there is a suspicion of plagiarism, applications have been run through plagiarism tracking sites. Characters found to be plagiarized will be removed from game immediately and not accepted again before massive rewrite has occurred. Players found writing applications for others will be disciplined also.
This game is massive. We currently have over 250 characters, and nearly 50 players. We do not have the capacity to reply to everything and we miss stuff. If you think we've overlooked something or you're unsure, ask us. Especially during the last week of the month when we're working on plot calendar and activity check.
MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE:
Whatever your character does in the course of the game will be regarded in the context of the game. This game is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so yes, there will be game-wide plots, and you're free to do your own side adventures.
That being said, if you're doing a side-adventure and it's something with a known comic universe or MCU villain (MODOK, Zemo, Madame Hydra, the Beetle, etc), you must check with the mods know beforehand. We might already have plans for them.
All villains are mod-controlled unless previously discussed in the context of a specific plot.
All fandoms are considered canon punctured (For an explanation of canon puncture, click here.) except for the Marvel.
Since we're set in a Marvel universe, character death and resurrection are possible. However this will be worked out on a case-by-case basis.
